Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 5, at the funeral home, where visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are pending and will be announced in the Friday edition of the Record-Eagle. IVAN H. ECKLER, 88, of Mancelona, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 5, at Antrim Church of Christ in Mancelona. The family will receive friends on Friday, from 1 to 8 p.m., at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Interment will take place at 9 a.m., Monday, July 7, in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska. FRANCES S. GODFREY, 79, of Frankfort, died Tuesday morning, July 1, 2003, at Frankfort Senior Care Home. Funeral services will be held today, July 3, at 4 p.m., from the Benzonia Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska. HELEN F. McCLELLAN, 74, of Elberta, died Tuesday evening, July 1, 2003, at Munson Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, July 7, from the Benzonia Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes. Burial will be in Gilmore Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday and Sunday, from 6 to 8 p.m. TRAVERSE CITY - Victor G. "Vic" Cody, 85, of Traverse City, died Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at home with his family at his side. Born in Bay City on Dec. 28, 1917, he was the only child of the late Nelson and Mary (Kerr) Cody. On Oct. 5, 1946, in Bay City, he married the former Alberta "Bert" Bowden. A resident of Traverse City since 1977, Vic retired from General Motors as foreman in the Gray Iron Foundry after 28 years of service. Vic was a veteran of World War II, serving as surgical tech and carbine expert in the U.S. Army during the Pacific Theater. He was also a member of the Kalkaska VFW Post. Vic is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Alberta "Bert" Cody of Traverse City; two daughters, Sherry (Robert) Pohlman of Traverse City and Char (Gene) McGlone of Florida; a son, Steven (Andria) Cody of Minnesota; five grandchildren, Susan (David) Strudgeon, Troy (Jenny) Marx, Chelsea Richards, Tyler Cody and Caitlyn Cody; four great-grandchildren, Mike and Sam Strudgeon, Isaac and James Marx; and many nieces and nephews, all whom he loved very much. Vic was loved very much and will be sadly missed by all of his friends and family and by his little buddy, his dog "Butchie." Memorial services, with full military honors under the auspices of VFW Cherryland Post #2780, will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 5, at Kalkaska United Methodist Church, where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of service. The Rev. Robert Stark will officiate. Burial will take place in Floral Gardens Cemetery, Bay City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vic's name to Kalkaska United Methodist Church or Munson Hospice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Homes, Traverse City. EMPIRE - Jeanette Agnes Salisbury Cheney, 92, a lifelong resident of Empire, died Tuesday in Empire. She was a 1929 graduate of Empire High School and graduated as a registered nurse from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Grand Rapids. Over the years, Jeanette was a Leelanau County nurse; and, with her husband, she owned and operated Salisbury Hardware in Empire from 1940 to 1967. She also worked as a nurse at Munson Medical Center and in various doctors' offices. Jeanette was an avid bridge player, a founding member of the Traverse City Zonta Club, a member of the Traverse City Senior Center and a lifelong member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, where she was involved in religious education. Jeanette represented the American Cancer Society in Leelanau County, had been involved in scouting and was able to continue driving until she was 89 years old. She especially enjoyed traveling with her family and her sisters. Born June 25, 1911, in Empire, she was the daughter of Mark and Jane (DuFrane) Deering Sr. In Empire, Jeanette married Chester F. Salisbury Sr., who preceded her in death in July 1973. A few years later, she married Edwin Cheney, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Fred J. (Beatrice) Salisbury and Chet F. Salisbury Jr.; two brothers, Mark (Alice) Deering Jr. and Warren (Orpha) Deering, all of Empire; five grandchildren, Fred (Jackie) Salisbury Jr., Ross (Cindy) Salisbury, Lisa (Ray) Czapek, Stuart Salisbury and Collin Salisbury; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Jeanette was also preceded in death by two infant children; two sisters, Alice and Velma; and three brothers, Clifford, Tom and Richard. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Monday, July 7, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Empire. Father William Lipscomb will serve as celebrant. Friends may call at the church on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., where a rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Philip Neri Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. LARRY SOGGE TRAVERSE CITY - Larry, 54, died peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born Nov. 21, 1948, in Traverse City, son of the late Glenn and Mae (Henderson) Sogge. Larry graduated from Traverse City High School in 1967. He married his high school sweetheart, Sheryl Robbins, on Aug. 26, 1967. Larry was a construction worker and crane operator through the years, until he and his wife purchased Belanger Excavating in 1994; in 1997, they also purchased Security Sanitation. Larry enjoyed riding his Harley motorcycle with his family and friends. Larry is survived by Sheryl, "his bride" of 35 years; sons, Rich (Mandy) Sogge and Brian Sogge; and his pride and joy, his grandsons, Brandon and Spencer. Also surviving are three sisters, Dorothy Sogge, Ann Blonshine and Sandy Sadler; mother and father-in-law, Jim and Betty Robbins; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ame and Kay Esman, Stan and Nancy Robbins, and Jim and Nancy Watson; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his best friends, Dan and LuAnne Lautner. Visitation will be today, July 3, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Saturday, July 5, at First Christian Church, 3686 S. Airport Rd., Traverse City. The Rev. Larry Ross will officiate. Cremation will take place and his ashes put to rest at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Larry's name to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to Covell Funeral Homes, Traverse City.
