June 29, 2001ObituariesHERMANN, Mo. - Joyce Marie Brusseau Green, of Hermann, Mo., died on Sunday.She was born on Sept. 7, 1917, in Amasa, and was a descendant of Queen Marinette of the Menominee Indians. After graduating as valedictorian from Amasa High School in 1935, she attended Northeran Michigan University in Marquette. Joyce married Gilbert Henry Green on Feb. 23, 1942, and became a world traveler as her husband's career with the Air Force took them with their 11 children around the globe. Mrs. Green enjoyed hiking, biking and other outdoor activities, and loved the Atlanta Braves, Andre Aggasi, Chinese food and politics. She made cloth fashion dolls for each of her seven daughters, and quilts for each of her 21 grandchildren, which are still treasured. Joyce's children are, Kathleen Joyce Haimila of Hermann, Mo., Gilbert H. Green II of Jackson, Jeanne Marie Ballew of Elk Rapids, Kerry Sue Bowes of Elk Rapids, Robin Kelly Green of Prescott, Ariz., Paula Jean Meyer of Hermann, Mo., David Ralph Green, deceased, Christopher John Green of San Antonio, Texas, Joyce Irene Kruger of Mio, Michele Therese Agnoli of Wausau, Wis. and Jennifer Rose Green-O'Hara of Hermann, Mo. Joyce Green will be laid to rest at the Shrine at Starkenburg, Mo. CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Leslie H. Leonard, 84, formerly of Lewiston, Pa., and Traverse City, and for the past several years a resident of Menno Haven Nursing Home in Chambersburg, Pa., died Wednesday Evening at Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg, Pa. He was born on Sept. 5, 1916, in Lewiston, Pa., the son of the late Lawrence B. and Pearl Hersh Leonard. On Oct. 1, 1937, he married Iva Smith Leonard. Leslie was employed as a carpenter. He was a member of the Cherry Blossom Mennonite Church in Traverse City. He is survived by his wife, Iva; two sons, John Brady Leonard of Mancelona and James Leroy of Spring City, Pa.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother; a half brother and a half sister. Funeral services will be held on Sunday evening at 8 p.m. at the Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, Ltd., 725 Norland Avenue, Chambersburg, Pa. with the Rev. Lester Otto and the Rev. Sam Troyer officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements were handled by the Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home. ACME - Axel G. Everson, 76, of Acme, formerly of Southfield, died Wednesday at Munson Medical Center. Born Sept. 6, 1924, in Redford Township, he was the son of George and Celia (Richards) Everson. On Nov. 29, 1947, in Dearborn, he married the former Maxine T. "Mickey" Zilz, who survives. Axel was awarded the Purple Heart having served his country honorably with the U.S. Army from 1941-1945 in the European Theatre. He was the former owner and operator of Tackletown in Traverse City; former owner of the Clock Restaurant in Traverse City; former member of the Elks Lodge and attended Christ the King Catholic Church in Acme. He enjoyed boating and fishing and especially loved his family and 12 grandchildren. Along with his wife, Axel is also survived by three daughters, Janice (Ron) Ascione of Acme, Judy (Steve) Crane of Brighton, and Gail (Frank) Migliazzo of Rochester Hills; 12 grandchildren; six sisters; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gary Everson in 1995; two brothers; and one sister. Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home today from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. where a rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Christ the King Catholic Church on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Father Edwin Thome serving as celebrant. Burial will be in Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery. In remembrance, memorial contributions may be directed to the Salvation Army. MATTHEW JAMES SLATER, 18, of Traverse City, died Wednesday evening. Arrangements are pending at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. |
