Jesse Bailey Died August 29, 2000 MESICK - Jesse Bailey, 93, of Mesick, formerly of Honor, died Tuesday at Leelanau Health Center. Born May 3, 1907, in Platte Township, he was the son of Robert and Catherine (Madagama) Bailey. In 1934, in Emmet County, he married the former Lillian King, who preceded him in death. A carpenter, Jessie enjoyed hunting, baseball, boating, fishing and horses. He had a great sense of humor and ability to tell jokes. Survivors include his sons, Warren (Cindy) Bailey of Mesick and Bill (Patti) Bailey of Honor; a daughter, Andrea McDowell of Grawn; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Amelia Hodder of Pinckney, Leona David of Southfield and Helen (Daryl) Coons of Haward, Wis.; and a brother, Leon Bailey, Sr. of Honor. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his brothers, Nicholas, Raymond, Anton, Henry, Clarence, David and infant brothers Robert and George. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Manistee. Steven Szasz Sr. Died August 31, 2000 FLINT - Steven Szasz, Sr., 78, of Flint, died Thursday at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Mr. Szasz was born June 28, 1922, in Hungary, the son of Karoly and Piroska Szasz. Mr. Szasz retired from Fisher Body. He was a talented cabinet maker and a member of the Hungarian Culture Club in Detroit. Survivors include two children, Elizabeth Szasz-Nartker of Swartz Creek and Steven Szasz, Jr. of Traverse City; three grandchildren, Edward (Kim) Zerka, Christine (James) Yoo and Meagan Szasz; two great-grandchildren, Rachel and Steven Zerka; and numerous family members in Hungary. Curtis Edwin Coil Died August 30, 2000 TRAVERSE CITY - Curtis Edwin Coil, 82, of Traverse City, passed away Wednesday surrounded by his family. Born Jan. 25, 1918, in Hillsdale, Michigan, he was the son of Edwin and Lura (Wade) Coil. On Feb. 18, 1954, in Ft. Wayne, Ind., he married the former Helen R. Phlipot. Curtis was the proprietor of Front Street Body Shop and Sale Barns Body and Radiator Shop, which is now owned by his sons as Coils Service and Superior Collision. Curtis and his wife were members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Curtis enjoyed traveling with his wife, fishing, hunting, and most of all, family gatherings. After his retirement he enjoyed helping at his son Jim's race track. He was an outdoorsman and made several hunting trips to Wyoming with his friends and his son Michael. Survivors include his wife, Helen Coil; nine children, Linda (George) Hoffmeister of Traverse City, Daniel (Elaine) Renollet of N. Carolina; Janice Chapman of Traverse City, Helen Cioe of Traverse City, Connie Renollet of Traverse City, James (Sandy) Coil of Traverse City, Cindy (Pierre) Odum of Lake Ann, Pamela Ruthenberg of Springhills, Fla. and Michael (Christine) Coil of Traverse City; 21 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Mildred, LaDonna, Ramona and Patty. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Curtis E. Coil, Jr.; and one brother, Dale. CADILLAC - Marjorie Kelly Holland died surrounded by her husband and four children in her home on Friday. She was born in Cadillac on April 14, 1924, to T. Walter Kelly and Marion S. (Saunders) Kelly. She will be missed by her husband of 54 years, Durrell K. (Herb) Holland, and children Kelly O'Leary (with husband, Irving, and children Matthew and Caitlin) of Mattawan; Crit Holland (with wife, Adele, and children Abbie, Dylan and Greta) of Sault Ste. Marie; Meegan Holland of Lansing and Michael T. Holland of Traverse City. She also is survived by a sister, Meegan K. Barlow (Mrs. Robert), of Newaygo; and a brother, Graham M. Kelly of Tampa, Fla. Mrs. Holland received her bachelor's of science degree in physical education and biology from Central Michigan University in 1946. She taught at Cooly School in Cadillac until 1948. In 1964, she embarked on a career in which she served hundreds of girls and women in northwest Michigan in her roles as field director, training director, assistant executive director and membership director for the Crooked Tree Girl Scout Council based in Traverse City. She was awarded the highest Girl Scout adult recognition - the Thanks Badge and the Thanks Badge II - before she retired in 1986. She later served on the Crooked Tree Girl Scout board of directors as a volunteer and was a proud lifetime member of GSUSA. Marje tried to live by the words of the Girl Scout promise, "On my honor, I will try..." She also was a volunteer for many other good causes, including the Cadillac Branch of the American Association of University Women; OASIS, a haven for abused women; and the citizen's committee for the Cadillac Area Public Schools junior high building program. She volunteered many hours at the Wexford County Historical Society, for which she served multiple roles, including president from 1992 to 1995. She loved history and wrote "Cadillac to Traverse City Indian Trail" and "Touring Old Cadillac," booklets that are still available at the Wexford County Historical Museum. The family invites friends to celebrate Marge's life at a memorial service at the First Congregational United Church of Christ on Saturday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. with luncheon following. A private burial service will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac. Harris; and Hospice of Michigan, 932 N. Mitchell. flag William C. Smith Jr. Died September 1, 2000 TRAVERSE CITY - William C. Smith, Jr., 66, a lifelong resident of Traverse City, died Friday. Born May 1, 1934, in Grand Rapids, he was the son of William C. and Crystal (Allen) Smith, Sr. William served in the U.S. Army and saw active duty in the Korean War. He owned and operated Smith's Service Station at Chum's Corners for many years. He loved to pick mushrooms and go fishing. Survivors include three children, Joelyn (Craig) Kreiser of Traverse City, William (Pam) Smith of Cedar and Marcia (Ron) Bowman of Benton Harbor; former wife, Nancy Knight; six grandchildren; and seven brothers and sisters, John T. (Virginia) Smith, Pricilla Phifer, James (Phyllis) Smith, Donald (Rita) Smith, Gerald "Duke" Smith, Thelma "Birdy" Yokeum and Lawrence Smith. Mr. Smith was retired from Macklin/Bendix after 30 years of service. He also worked for New York Central Railroad for 18 years and was an avid gardener. Loretta was a lifetime resident of the Northport area. She was a member of St. Gertrudes Catholic Church and a 33-year member of the alter society. Loretta had been a member of the Leelanau Township Foundation for 37 years. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. photo Michael James Hughson Died September 1, 2000 INTERLOCHEN - Michael James Hughson, 40, of Interlochen died unexpectedly Friday, September 1, after being struck by lightning. Born July 30, 1960, in Manistique, Mich., he was the son of Victor Hughson and Beverly Gregurash. Michael grew up in Albion, Mich., and in Bellaire, Mich., where he graduated from Bellaire High School in 1979. He graduated from Northwestern Michigan College with a degree in commercial art. Michael was self-employed. His businesses included "Signs from Interlochen" and "North Frankfort Antiques." He was an extremely gifted artist, but his most fulfilling work was with antiques. He enjoyed visiting family across the United States. He lived his life fully and enjoyed life to its utmost. His passing is a tremendous loss to those who knew him. Those who will miss him greatly are his wife Narda (McNitt) whom he married October 22, 1988, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Traverse City; his son, Lucas; mother, Beverly Goddard of Kalkaska; father, Victor Hughson of Gulliver, Mich.; sister, Vicki (Dave) Shoemaker of Coloma, Mich.; his brothers, Scott Hughson of Littleton, Colo., Guy (Cindy) Hughson of Fairplay, Colo., and Dennis (Miranda) Hughson of Rockville, Ind.; his nephews and nieces, Jonathan and Patrick Shoemaker, Sarah and Matthew Hughson, and Meghan, Brittany, Bryce, and Bradley Hughson; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Born Feb. 23, 1931, in Shelbina, Mo., she was the daughter of Arthur and Mary (Hiles) Hooper. Betty had lived in Traverse City since 1963. She had been employed at Essex Wire/United Technologies/Lear as a stock handler prior to her retirement. She was a member of Fellowship Church and also volunteered with the Senior Companion Program through Catholic Social Services. George Richard Pluhar Sr. Died September 4, 2000 TRAVERSE CITY - George Richard Pluhar Sr., 64, of Traverse City, died Monday at Munson Medical Center. Born June 30, 1936, in Dearborn, he was the son of George J. and Mafalda A. (Silvani) Pluhar. George was a member of the Traverse City Elks Lodge and the Bendon Eagles. He enjoyed fishing, baseball and hockey. He had a great compassion for animals, especially his own two dogs. He was a compassionate volunteer and contributed much to Sacred Heart Center in Detroit. Survivors include his children, Linda M. Marshall of Northville, Loretta M. Wilkie of Westland, George R. Pluhar Jr. of Honor, and Glenn T. Penny worked and lived in Traverse City and Ann Arbor, Mich. and Walnut Creek and Laguna Hills, Calif. Penny worked within the medical field as a Northflight Emergency Helicopter dispatcher, CCU secretary, and emergency secretary in Traverse City. She worked as an office assistant/coordinator for physicians offices in California. Penny enjoyed her life, her work, folk and Irish music, dancing, and the company of friends and family. Irvin Ezra Luper Died September 6, 2000 TRAVERSE CITY - Irvin Ezra Luper, 87, of Traverse City, died Wednesday at Grand Traverse Pavilions. Born Sept. 28, 1912, in Traverse City, he was the son of Ernest and Daisy (Milks) Luper. On May 6, 1937, in Fife Lake, he married the former Fern Maurice Johnson. Irvin was a retired plumber and farmer. He was also the first flea market concessionaire at the Buckley Steam Engine Show. He is survived by his wife; son, Charles Luper of Ocala, Fla.; four grandsons, James G. Luper, Gary L. Luper - both of Traverse City, Douglas J. Luper of Ocala, Fla. and Jay S. Luper of Elizabethtown, Tenn.; one great-granddaughter, Randi Breanne Luper of Traverse City; a sister, Minetta Nitzel; and a brother, George Wilson. Private family services will be held. Born May 26, 1910, in Akron, Ohio, Mr. Walker received his liberal arts degree from Amherst College in 1930. Upon graduation he worked briefly for Firestone Tires, attended business school, served in the U.S. Navy, and began working for Knight Newspapers (later Knight Ridder Corporation). Mr. Walker began as a private secretary at the Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal, moved to Detroit where he was auditor and the Treasurer of the Detroit Free Press. He retired from the Free Press in the early 1970s. Summer residents in Leland since 1954, the Walkers became permanent residents of Leland in 1972. In Leland, Mr. Walker was active in and Treasurer of the Leelanau County chapter of the American Cancer Society, The Prospectors' Club and the International Coffee Club of America, and St. Peter's (Episcopal) summer chapel in Leland. Mr. Walker was predeceased by his wife of fifty-six years, Elisabeth Adams Walker. Surviving are his children, Donald A. Walker Jr. and his wife Cheryl, Mary Walker Rector and her husband Timothy, and James Adams Walker and his partner JoEllen Corpe; and grandchildren Donald A. Box 736, Leland, MI 49654. Ruth E. Watson Died September 7, 2000 HEMLOCK - Ruth E. Watson entered her heavenly home Thursday at Covenant-Cooper after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. She was 75. Ruth E. Schoof, the daughter of the late Raymond and Erma Schoof was born August 17, 1925, in Saginaw County. She married Warren E. Watson August 11, 1945; he survives her. They recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. Ruth was a member of the Hemlock Farm Bureau and a volunteer at the Bethesda Thrift Shop and at Zion Lutheran Church, Iva. A former devoted 4-H leader who was very involved with the family dairy farm, she formed many friendships through the common interests in Guernsey cattle. Her interests included vegetable and flower gardening, quilting and embroidery. She took special delight in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The needs of others were often taken care of before her own. Ruth was a life member of Zion Lutheran Church, Iva. Surviving besides her husband are four children and their spouses, Betty Jo and Harley Kernstock, Auburn; Nancy and Charles Shimek, Mesick; Janet and Bill Kilgore, Thomas Township; and Edwin and Patricia Watson, Hemlock. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Alicia and Ashley Kilgore, Ondrea and C.J. Brown, 70, of Boyne City, formerly of Traverse City, died Friday after many years of failing health. Born March 24, 1930, in Traverse City, he was the son of John and Emma (Durga) Brown. On May 22, 1970, in Muskegon he married the former Marilyn Stebbins, who survives. Mr. Brown graduated from Traverse City Central's Class of 1948. He was employed as an administrator and educator for many years in a number of school districts throughout Michigan. For two years he served in the U.S. Army as a cryptographer. He was also an avid sports fan and was a recognized sports official for more than 25 years. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Boyne City; his mother, Emma, of Muskegon; one daughter, Terri Lynn Brown of Mt. Memorials may be directed to a charity of one's choice. flag Leona Hall Died September 8, 2000 TRAVERSE CITY - Leona Hall, longtime director of the annual observance of Michigan Week, died Friday at age 79 in Traverse City. Ex-Gov. William G. Milliken, who named her as his 1970 representative at sister-state ceremonies in Japan's Shiga Prefecture, called her "a warm friend, and a great promotor of Michigan to the nation and the world." Leona, the first woman president of the Public Relations Association of Michigan, in 1968 became executive director of the Greater Michigan Foundation, then the sponsor of Michigan Week. That was soon after the 1968 death of her husband, Donald C. Weeks, a former city editor at the Traverse City Record-Eagle, who founded Michigan Week after serving as secretary of the Traverse City Chamber of Commerce and director of the Michigan Department of Economic Development. In 1976 she married L.S. Hall of Grenada, Miss., where she lived until his death in 1986 at which time she moved back to Michigan. After a World War II stint with the U.S. Marine Corps, she was a clerk for the state Senate Taxation Committee chaired by Sen. James T. Milliken, R-Traverse City. A 1938 graduate of Lansing Central High School, she also served as secretary and public relations assistant to famed pianist Jose Iturbi. She was a member of the Economic club of Detroit, Women's Advertising Club of Detroit, Organization Executives of Michigan, Women's Press Club, Zonta Club of Lansing and the East Lansing Women's Club. Kirsch, 84, of Traverse City, died Friday at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Battle Creek. Born April 20, 1916, in Traverse City, he was the son of Henry and Marie (Thum) Kirsch. On May 9, 1937, in Bessemer, he married the former Evelyn E. Carlson. William was a lifelong resident of this area. A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II in the South Pacific. William was employed as a nurse attendant at the state hospital for 39 years, retiring in 1975. He was life a member of the VFW Cherryland Post No. 2780 and enjoyed golf, bowling, gardening and fishing. Victor Salash Sr. Died September 5, 2000 TRAVERSE CITY - Victor Salash, Sr., 88, of Traverse City, formerly of Detroit, died Tuesday at his residence in Traverse City. Victor was born on Sept. 14, 1911, in Kiev, Russia, the son of the late Stephan and Eudoxia (Danielina) Salash. On Dec. 31, 1938, he was united in marriage to the former Evelyn Davis, who survives him. The Salash family left Russia during the Bolshevik Revolution and finally reached the United States in 1922. Victor retired after 41 years from National Broach and Machine Co., Red Ring Division, on Dec. 31, 1981. During his employment he was instrumental in the development of a broach that increased the reliability of military aircraft landing gear and tank's drive-train, possibly saving thousands of soldier's lives. Besides his wife, Evelyn, he is survived by a son, Victor (Sharon) Salash, Jr. of Lake Forest, Calif.; two daughters, Sandra (Richard) LaMontagne of Traverse City and Dotty (Gary) Brown of Northport; six grandchildren, Debora Watson, Robert and Christopher LaMontagne and Cody Brown - all of Traverse City and Melanie and Jeffery Salash of California; and two great-grandchildren, Cole Watson and Megan Salash. John Steven Kahllo Died September 4, 2000 BEULAH - John Steven Kahllo, of Beulah, was born Oct. 30, 1950, and lived his life where he found great joy and beauty - near the water. He was raised on Gun Lake (Barry County) where he learned and developed his life long passion for fishing. John built a house on a beautiful bend on the Manistee River (Kalkaska County) with his late wife Paula Leonard Kahllo. He spent the last years of his life on Crystal Lake (Benzie County) with his partner Mary Pitcher. Every June John went to Longlac, Ontario, where his homemade walleye jigs, known as Kahllo Killers, are in high demand. John founded and operated several logging forest product businesses, which allowed him to be where he wanted to be most - outdoors. His incredible talent in the woods enabled him to selectively cut hardwood timber with care and skill so that timber was harvested while protecting the forest ecosystem. John fought a long and courageous battle against a rare form of bone cancer, osteosarcoma. All of those who were with him during the two years of frequently painful and disfiguring treatment were continually amazed and humbled by his spirit, grace and determination. He succumbed to cancer on Sept. 4, 2000. John was preceded in death by his father, David Kent Kahllo, and his wife, Paula Leonard Kahllo. He is survived by his mother, Joanne Steward and stepfather, Donald Steward; sister, Gail (Mike) Bourdo of Orangeville; brother, Jim (Lois) Kahllo of Shelbyville; the Lake family of Gun Lake; his uncle Roger Kahllo of Orangeville; several nieces and nephews; his partner Mary Pitcher; and a community of loving friends. Born Oct. 27, 1925, in Traverse City, she was the daughter of Stanley W. and Lillian H. (Lardie) Wood. On April 20, 1945, in Traverse City, she married Merlin "Stub" Lewis. A homemaker, Donna was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas - Court 1391, where she was also the financial secretary. Donna was also a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Traverse City. She enjoyed reading and her greatest pride were her grandchildren. Survivors include three daughters, Kathryn (Gerald) Dafoe of Traverse City, Connie (Scott) Youker of Traverse City and Cynthia Lewis of Loxahatchee, Fla.; three sons, Larry Lewis and his special friend, Ann Hoopfer, of Suttons Bay and Robert and Jeffrey Lewis - both of Traverse City; and 12 grandchildren. On Jan. 15, 1945, in Traverse City, she married Wallace Van Cleave, Jr. Barbara grew up in Glen Arbor, where her parents founded the Leelanau Schools, the Homestead and Camp Leelanau for Boys. She will be remembered for her cooking, knitting and generosity. Polly B. Bergh Died September 10, 2000 NEWBERRY - Polly S. Bergh, 75, of Newberry, died Sunday morning at her residence under the loving care of her family and North Woods Home Health and Hospice. Born June 9, 1925, in Ontonagon, daughter of the late John and Alice (Parker) Stevens, Mrs. Bergh was a 1943 graduate of Ontonagon High School and also a 1945 graduate of Augustana Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, Ill. A resident of Newberry since 1965, Polly was employed at the former Newberry Regional Mental Health Center as a Registered Nurse and also was the Administrator of the Luce County Annex for several years until her retirement. In 1973, she received the Citizen of the Year Award for her dedicated work at the Luce County Annex. Polly was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and her interests included reading. Besides her parents, Polly is preceded in death by her daughters, Patricia, Barbara and Dana. Survivors include her husband, Newman Bergh of Newberry, whom she married May 24, 1947, in Ontonagon; four children, John (Judy) of Bonduel, Wis., Gail (Ron) Schultz of Traverse City, Dave (Laurie) of Newberry, and Beth (Rob) Reynolds of Baraga; also 10 grandchildren. Born March 13, 1904, in Cobourg, Ontario, Canada, she was the daughter of John and Ellen (Roache) McGrath. Kathleen resided in the Grand Traverse area since 1930, coming from Detroit. She took pride in the fact that the Bertha Vos Elementary School and Christ the King Catholic Church are located on part of the former Miller property. Kathleen was formerly employed by the Traverse Bay Woolen Company for over 20 years. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Acme and the Acme Ladies Aid Society and she served on the Acme school board for several years. For a time, he was owner and publisher of two weekly newspapers in the Upper Peninsula, the Manistique Pioneer-Tribune and the Gladstone Delta Reporter. He came to Traverse City in 1981 as classified advertising manager and was almost immediately promoted to advertising director. He became assistant to the publisher in 1988, was promoted to general manager in 1991 and became publisher in 1993. As a trustee and president of the Traverse Area District Library, he was instrumental in the campaign to build a new library for the community. He was co-chair of the capital campaign for the Grand Traverse Heritage Center in the old library building and a member of both the Rotary Club and the corporate board of Munson Hospital. He also served as president of Michigan Newspapers Inc., president of the Michigan League of Home Dailies and was a board member of the Michigan Press Association. Johnson Scholarship Program for Grand Traverse, Leelanau and Benzie counties. She was a supporter of the 4-H Programs in Empire, Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City, the Moffitt Cancer Research Center in Tampa, Fla., and The Empire Historical Society. She was a Past Worthy Matron Eastern Star in Empire many times. Mrs. Johnson was a member and supporter of the St. Philip Neri Catholic Church her entire lifetime in Empire. She was known for her kindness, generosity and loving personality. On Dec. 20, 1953, in Bear Lake, she married Edward Joseph Sullivan, who preceded her in death in 1965. Bonnie was a retired head cook for the Benzie County Sheriff's Department. She was also very active with the Boy Scouts for many years. Bonnie loved knitting, sewing and camping. Kenneth was a former resident of Clarkston and Buckley. He was a U.S. veteran in the Marines, serving in the Korean War. Kenneth was employed as a truck driver for ten years for Kellogg Wholesale Building Supply, retiring in 1976. He also farmed for 30 years in Buckley. He enjoyed camping and was an outdoorsman. He also enjoyed being with his grandchildren and his family. Joe had vacationed every summer in Traverse City with his parents, Alfred E. and Nell (Heilner) Brady and realized a lifelong desire when he moved his family to T.C. in 1969. Joe was service manager for Addressograph-Multigraph Corp. in Miami, Fla. and worked in sales and service for the same company in T.C. In the late 1970's he was employed by Midwestern Cablevision in video production. Joe is being grieved by two daughters from his 20 year marriage to Jeanne T. Brady, they are Beth (Rick) Harris of Arizona and Jennifer (John) Wooley of Saline - both graduates of GT Area Catholic Schools; and four grandsons, Ian and Justin Harris and Joseph and Griffin Wooley. He is also missed by his siblings Patricia Campbell of Philadelphia, John (Joan) of Toledo, William (Karen) of T.C. and Alfred (Sandy) of Toledo; and his good friends Hazen and Leta Gregory of T.C. Joe was an uncle to 33 nieces and nephews and has numerous cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews, and aunts and uncles, as his grandparents had 17 children combined. A highly decorated soldier, he joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and was one of 27 men to serve 4« years of active duty, the longest tour in history. He resided in Jackson, Lansing and Honor. Bill took great pride in his career as a milkman and later he became the successful owner of numerous independent businesses. A skilled outdoorsman, he loved to hunt, fish and golf. A champion of positive thinking, his greatest achievements are the countless caring relationships he forged with his family and friends. His strong influence will be sorely missed. He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Bernice Weed Lievense, and a son, James. Born March 5, 1930, in Detroit, Jerry was a quiet and unassuming man whose gentle, self-effacing humor hid a kind heart and a superior intellect. During his lifetime, he mastered dozens of skills including carpentry, archery and photography, for which he won several awards. He was also at times a barber, an inventor, a cowboy singer and a storyteller. In 1948 at Plymouth, Mich., he married his high school sweetheart, Sally Louise Fraleigh, who survives. He is also survived by his daughters, Cynthia Creighton of Tamarac, Fla., Linda Hepler (Russ Beaty) of Cedar, and Marta Hepler Drahos (John Parker) of Maple City; his grandchildren, Tracy Smedes Hepler and Justin Smedes Hepler of Cedar; his sisters, Wanda Roberts of Glendora, Calif. and Judy Brian of San Diego, Calif.; and his brother, Stanley Hepler of Gladwin. Besides his family, his lasting passion was gardening. In addition to fruits and vegetables, he raised flowers; he was experimenting with orchids at the time of his death. Jerry took quiet pride in his daughter's accomplishments, and pleasure in their company. In 1997 he and Sally, a retired registered nurse, moved to Maple City to be near them. His household also included several horses, dogs and cats, including the devoted Clementine, whom he leaves behind. He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald "Jerry" Jr.; his father, Earle Hepler; his mother and stepfather, Ruth and Art Nordhagen; and his sister, Betty Walker. Dorothy T. Durrett Died September 14, 2000 TRAVERSE CITY - Dorothy T. Durrett, of Traverse City, died Thursday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Born Aug. 16, 1912, in Covington, Ky., she was the daughter of Thomas H. and Caroline (Borschell) Tracy. She resided in Cincinnati for many years. On Nov. 25, 1942, in Bellaire, she married Robert Weems Durrett, who preceded her in death in 1980. Mrs. Durrett was a graduate of Walnut Hills High School of Cincinnati and of Western College of Oxford, Ohio, and served her dietetic internship at Christ Hospital of Cincinnati. She was a member of The American Dietetic Association for 43 years, working in hospitals in Hamilton, Ohio, Louisville and Indianapolis before coming to Traverse City to be the Dietitian at Munson Hospital, a position she held for 35 years before retiring in 1972. She especially enjoyed gardening, sharing her roses, playing bridge, crossword puzzles and hunting and fishing with her husband. She was also predeceased by her brother, Thomas H. Tracy of Cincinnati, in July of 1997. She is survived by four nephews and a niece, James B. Durrett of Florida, Richard W. Pastor Lloyd Early Died September 15, 2000 WHITE CLOUD - Pastor Lloyd Early, 66, of White Cloud, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday evening, Sept. 15, 2000. He was a humble servant of God who graduated from the Grand Rapids Baptist Seminary in 1982 with a master of religious education. During his ministry of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, he served at various churches during his lifetime and previously served at Faith Baptist Church in Benzonia. A wonderful family man, Pastor Early felt that his family was not "part" of his ministry, but "was" his ministry. In addition to playing the harmonica, he loved to fish and was a "fisher of men and fish." Florence was born April 4, 1932, in Highland Park, the daughter of Jessi and Elisabeth (Gourlay) Justice. She married Robert Maurice Lewis, Sr. on Aug. 10, 1962, in Pontiac. Florence loved her garden and flowers. She loved crafts, sewing and painting. She enjoyed family cookouts in the summer and sitting on her swing to enjoy the sunshine. Florence also loved vacationing at her mom's house in Florida. She made snowmen in the winter and strawmen in the fall. She enjoyed all the holidays like a child would. Most of all, she will be remembered for her kids that she loved with all her being. She will be missed dearly but in our memory forever. Florence is survived by her husband, Robert M. Dennis was born in Traverse City on October 7, 1942, to Arnold and Julia (Leach) Johnson. He graduated from Michigan Technological University in June of 1964 and went to work for the State of California in Modesto. He married the former Jacqueline Sue Judd on June 11, 1964, in Traverse City, who will maintain their Pentwater home. Dennis, a professional engineer, was employed by Consumers Energy for the past 31 years, most recently at the Ludington Pumped Storage Plant. Mr. Johnson was an avid golfer, participating in several leagues and was awarded a championship trophy for his play this year. He also enjoyed hunting during his free time. Alpin Died September 18, 2000 TRAVERSE CITY - Ronald K. Alpin, 57, of Traverse City, died Monday at Munson Medical Center. Mr. Alpin was born November 21, 1942, in Saginaw, to Dawn and Shirley (Brazem) Alpin. On May 27, 1967, in Traverse City, he married Ann Marie Nied who survives. For 32 years Mr. Alpin was employed by the City of Traverse City as an operator of the water plant on Eastern Avenue. He was also the owner/operator of RK Small Engine Repair and designed and built a hot dog grilling-stick known as "Dadz Devil Doggerz." He also served six years in the Army Reserves. Mr. Alpin was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Michigan Game Breeders Association and the National Rifle Association. He was a former member of the East Bay Township Fire Department, the Metro Fire Department, the Grand Traverse County Sheriff Department Reserve Unit and the Northwest Michigan Streetrod Association. Mr. Alpin, along with his daughter, Heather Ann, fulfilled a dream by building a Lamborghini together. The project was featured in two articles in the Record-Eagle. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, receiving two CHE' GEGON Club awards. Mr. Alpin was truly a devoted husband and father. Besides his wife, Ann Marie, and his daughter, Heather Ann (fianc‚ Marc Cline) - all of Traverse City, he is survived by a half sister, Karen Chernov of Hemlock, Mich., two cousins, Don (Lila) Alpin of Midland, Mich., and Jim (Carol) Alpin of Linwood, Mich., and an aunt, Vivian Cook of Saginaw. Orville Bahle Died September 5, 2000 CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Orville Bahle died Tuesday, Sept. 5, at a hospital in Chula Vista, Calif. at the age of 90. He was the son of Esten and Laura Gronseth Bahle. Orville was born in Ludington, Mich. where he lived until he was eight years of age. At that time the family moved to Suttons Bay where he attended Suttons Bay schools. Orville married Marion Hockstad of Traverse City on Oct. 13, 1934. She preceded him in death in 1981. He was also preceded in death by a son Peter in 1983 and a brother Gordon on June 16, 2000. Survivors include his daughter, Janice (Homer) Craig of Chula Vista, Calif.; two sisters, Realpha Clausen of Suttons Bay and Thelma (Ike) Hagen of Northport; two brothers, Lester and Kenneth (Helen) of Suttons Bay; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. His first occupation was as a sailor on the Great Lakes for several years after which he was an electrician for REA. During the war he was a model maker at the Tank Arsenal at Centerline, Mich. This he continued until his retirement in 1972 to his home in Lexington, Mich. He lived there until his health failed. He then moved to California to be with his daughter. Rosalia Marjorie 'Rosie' Ferguson Died September 16, 2000 TRAVERSE CITY - Rosalia Marjorie "Rosie" Ferguson, 73, of Traverse City, died Saturday at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born April 21, 1927, in Northport, the daughter of Clarence and Ethel (Calhoun) Blacken. She married James E. Ferguson on Jan. 8, 1945, at Garfield Park Methodist Church in Chicago. Rosie had been employed by Ameritech for 22 years, having been an operator and had worked in building services. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Sons of Norway and enjoyed volunteering for various charities. Rosie was admired by everyone she met and to paraphrase Will Rogers, she never met a person who didn't like her. Rosie especially enjoyed working in and admiring her flower garden. Her love of life and her humor will be remembered by all who knew her. Rosie is survived by her husband, James; by their children, Carl R. Ferguson, Robert L. Ferguson and Patricia J. Ferguson - all of Traverse City; a grandson, Neil C. Ferguson of Traverse City; and by two sisters, Careman Strickland and Carol Chance - both of Traverse City. A homemaker, Carol loved music and was an excellent singer. She also possessed many artistic talents. For many years she and her closest friend, Mitsi Appleby, had many successful craft shows together in Chicago and the Naples, Fla. area. She moved to Platte Lake in Honor at the age of four. Carol was a graduate of The Honor High School. She loved yard work and her yard was full of beautiful plants and flowers. 'Pete' Wilson Died September 18, 2000 TRAVERSE CITY - On Sept. 18, 2000, surrounded by his family and friends at Grand Traverse Pavilions, George B. "Pete" Wilson left this world to enter one free of pain. George was born on Jan. 5, 1923, to Benjamin and Daisy (Milks) Wilson of Kingsley. Drawn in by her ever present smile, he married the love of his life, Rose Marie Ockert, on Aug. 2, 1941. In their 59 years together, they raised seven daughters and two sons. George loved spending time outdoors, working with his hands, growing beautiful flowers and feeding wild life. Animals also piqued his interest, and he spent many years of his life raising, breeding and showing Arabian horses. He was especially interested in the 4-H horse program to which he donated breeding and foals. But above all, George was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather whose pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. George lived and gave back to the Grand Traverse area all of his life, except ten years which he spent in Port Orchard, Wash. where he worked as a carpenter and also worked as a logger. During World War II, he worked at a naval ship yard in Bremerton, Wash., as well as other military installations in the area. And, in 1955, George and his growing family returned home where he continued to spread his warm ways; kindness, honesty, generosity and strong work ethic. George retired in 1983 as chief engineer at Traverse City Area Public Schools after working there 28 years. Born Dec. 5, 1918, in Copemish, he was the son of Oscar and Anna (Samcova) Hampel. On Dec. 28, 1944, in Lawton, Okla., he married the former Dorothy E. Wischer, who survives. A lifelong resident of Traverse City, Otto served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was the former owner of Hampels Key and Gun Shop where he was a lock and gunsmith. Mr. Hampel still enjoyed working at the shop helping his friends. Otto enjoyed fishing, hunting and golf. He also enjoyed round, square and ballroom dancing with his wife. Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, Karl (Sandra) Hampel of Traverse City and Gerald (Gwen) Hampel of Grand Rapids; a daughter, Nancy Hampel of Traverse City; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Kibbe, 79, of Manton, died Wednesday at his home after a one year illness. Born Jan. 11, 1921, in Cadillac, he was the son of Harold and Ida (Anderson) Kibbe. On Jan. 5, 1943, in Cadillac, he married the former Ruth Coleman. Mr. Kibbe was a lifelong resident of Manton. He graduated from Manton High School in 1938. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, Southern France and Central Europe. After returning to Manton, he owned and operated Kibbe's Service Station for 32 years and later a car repair and wrecker business, retiring four years ago. He was a charter and life member of Manton VFW Post No. 7806, past master and life member of Manton Masonic Lodge No. 347, 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Traverse City, life member of the DAV in Cadillac, charter member of the Manton Snowmobile Club, member of the Manistee/Benzie Snowmobile Club and he served on the Manton City Commission and as Mayor Pro-tem. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, trapping, snowmobiling, camping, traveling and building things out of wood for his grandchildren. Dennis had been an executive vice president at the Harris Bank in Chicago, Ill. prior to moving to Traverse City in 1988. He then established his own business, LeJeune Investment Counsel. He was an avid golfer, enthusiastic family geneologist, devoted Notre Dame alumnus and he maintained a keen interest in politics. Dennis also received an honorable discharge from the U.S. Army Reserves. His memberships include Traverse City Rotary, Traverse City Golf and Country Club serving on the finance committee, a board member of City Opera House Heritage Association, a member of the University of Notre Dame Alumni Association and Sorin Society, a member of University Club of Chicago and the Notre Dame High School in Niles, Ill. 'Pete' Wilson Died September 18, 2000 TRAVERSE CITY - On Sept. 18, 2000, surrounded by his family and friends at Grand Traverse Pavilions, George B. "Pete" Wilson left this world to enter one free of pain. George was born on Jan. 5, 1923, to Benjamin and Daisy (Milks) Wilson of Kingsley. Drawn in by her ever present smile, he married the love of his life, Rose Marie Ockert, on Aug. 2, 1941. In their 59 years together, they raised seven daughters and two sons. George loved spending time outdoors, working with his hands, growing beautiful flowers and feeding wild life. Animals also piqued his interest, and he spent many years of his life raising, breeding and showing Arabian horses. He was especially interested in the 4-H horse program to which he donated breeding and foals. But above all, George was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather whose pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. George lived and gave back to the Grand Traverse area all of his life, except ten years which he spent in Port Orchard, Wash. where he worked as a carpenter and also worked as a logger. During World War II, he worked at a naval ship yard in Bremerton, Wash., as well as other military installations in the area. And, in 1955, George and his growing family returned home where he continued to spread his warm ways; kindness, honesty, generosity and strong work ethic. George retired in 1983 as chief engineer at Traverse City Area Public Schools after working there 28 years. Michael Everett Wilson Died September 21, 2000 TRAVERSE CITY - Michael Everett Wilson, 21, of Traverse City, entered into eternal rest Thursday at Munson Medical Center after a lifelong battle with cystic fibrosis. Michael was born Oct. 21, 1978, in Anchorage, Alaska. He attended local schools in the DeTour Village area when he was younger. He graduated from Mesick Consolidated Schools in 1997 and attended Northwestern Michigan College for one and a half years. Michael enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his many friends. Born Sept. 26, 1949, in Fife Lake, he was the son of DeBlenna and Julia (Mills) Downey. Dennis grew up in Fife Lake and graduated from Manton High School in 1968. He then served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a truck driver for 25 years for many companies including Dowell, Blarney Castle and Crystal Flash. He was a hard worker and had been the principal caregiver for his mother until her death. Eloise was a rural school teacher in Grand Traverse County from 1935 to 1942. She then worked as a dining room supervisor at the Traverse City State Hospital. She worked in the Department of Social Services in Coldwater from 1945 to 1961. From 1961 until her retirement in 1974 she was a Department of Social Services Administrator. She returned to the Traverse City area in 1975. After retirement, Eloise volunteered her time to social services and mental health programs. She dearly loved her involvement with the Asbury United Methodist Church. She also helped at Hillview Terrace Apartments. Survivors include a sister, Lucille (Mrs. Herbert) Steed of Interlochen; a niece, Fayma (Dean) Kuhn of Traverse City; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. Born Aug. 6, 1914, in Toledo, Ohio, she was the daughter of Grover C. and Maud M. (Ahrens) Vogel. Formerly a resident of Holloway, Mich., she moved to Elk Rapids in 1950 and to Traverse City in 1974. Ginny attended College Terrace Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed volunteering for the American Red Cross Blood Mobile, Traverse City Osteopathic Hospital and the Senior Companion Program. She was a member of the Traverse City Senior Center where she enjoyed participating in various activities. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia L. Ransom of Traverse City; a son, Michael (Peggy) Blouch of Sydney, Mich.; seven grandchildren, Deborah, Jana, Brandi, Tori, John, Christopher, and Charlie; three nieces; and a nephew. He was born Feb. 23, 1931, in Tecumseth, Ontario, Canada. Edward was employed by Michigan Bell for many years, retiring in 1993. Martin, Jr., 90, died of heart failure Aug. 29, in San Jose, Calif. He was born on March 26, 1900, in Detroit. Along with two brothers, he owned and operated Warren Products, Inc., a stamping plant in Northville. He and his family lived in Northville from 1942 to 1973. Upon his retirement in 1973, he moved to Traverse City, Mich. with his wife, Marion. They lived in Traverse City until October 1997, when they moved to San Jose in search of a warmer climate. Survivors include his wife of 58 years; two sons, Glenn (Dale) of Traverse City and Bob (Sandy) of San Jose; five grandchildren; and one brother, Dick, of Arizona. Frank's ashes have been returned to the Traverse City area at his request. He will be remembered for his love, guidance and patience for his family. He loved talking about the old days, trimming his pine trees, making cord wood and tinkering in his garage while living in Traverse City. A small family service was held on Sept. 1 in San Jose. Born on Dec. 10, 1924, in Detroit, he was the son of Norman K. and Mildred F. (Scott) Moore. On June 11, 1955, in Remus, he married Mary A. (Hanson) Moore. He was a resident of the area since 1955. Lee had worked as an engineer for the Parson Company and was a teacher at Glen Lake High School for 20 years, retiring about 1985. He taught math and drivers education, was an adviser to the ski club, and also scouted out opposing teams for the Glen Lake basketball teams. A veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the Traverse City Elks Club. He spent his winters in Gulf Shores and enjoyed golfing, the water, making stained glass, building model schooner ships, going to Interlochen and watching the students play concerts, and he really enjoyed going to his grandchildren's sporting events. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Lee (Pat) Kiella and Melissa "Missy" (Dave) Hubbell - both of Traverse City, and six grandchildren, Travis, Nick, Robin, Layne, Dustin and Lauren. Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Lois Nowak. Cheryl loved basket weaving, golf and her children. She worked as a teachers assistant for several years at Holy Angels. Dale lived for hunting and fishing. Warren was born April 12, 1924, in Detroit, the son of Edward and Adele (Heidenreich) Hansen. Warren lived in the Frankfort area during the late 1970's and early 1980's. He moved back to this area in 1995. He married the former Jean Beebe, who preceded him in death in 1997. Warren served his country honorably during World War II, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a life member of the VFW Cherryland Post 2780 of Traverse City and was a former member of the Frankfort Eagles, serving as treasurer for several years. Warren was also the former manager of the SouWestern Motel in Frankfort for several years. Warren is survived by his children, Richard of Bardstown, Ky., Linda (Ralph) Pierce of Frankfort and Dawn (Dick) Root of Grand Ledge; five grandsons; and two granddaughters. Blixberg, 87, of Traverse City, formerly of Brevort Lake, died Saturday at Munson Medical Center. She was born Feb. 10, 1913, in Detroit and served as a resource teacher in the Detroit school system for many years. Nedra graduated from Wayne State University and was a member of MEA, NEA, the Detroit Yacht Club and the Church of the Good Shepard in St. Ignace. She did crafts and taught ceramics while living at Brevort Lake and also enjoyed painting, with lighthouses as a favorite subject. She and her husband first summered at Brevort Lake in 1951 and built a home in 1971, moving to Traverse City because of health in 1997. Nedra enjoyed selling her crafts, giving the proceeds to people who were in need, helping many persons in the Moran area. She continued her talent at French Manor in Traverse City since moving there in 1997. Richard, whom she married on Aug. 15, 1936, died Oct. 24, 1998. Her parents, Eber and Helen Love Draper also preceded her in death. She is survived by a son, Kent, and his wife, Kathy, of Traverse City; a daughter, Nedra A. Blixberg of Marquette; sister-in-law, Jean Dodderidge of Santa Fe, N.M.; and three grandchildren, Kent, Christine, and Michelle. 'Bill' Kiessel Died September 27, 2000 CENTRAL LAKE - Rufus T. "Bill" Kiessel, 89, of Central Lake, died Wednesday at the Charlevoix Area Hospital. Bill was born July 6, 1911, in Suttons Bay, the son of Charles and Martha (Tatch) Kiessel. Bill served in the U.S. Army during World War II until 1946. He then moved to Central Lake from Suttons Bay where he farmed his entire working life. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Bellaire, the Torch Post VFW No. 6985, the Ellsworth Farmers Exchange Board, and served on the Central Lake Public School Board. On June 23, 1943, in Suttons Bay, he married Emily R. Reicha, who preceded him in death in 1994. Also preceding him in death were seven brothers, Carl, Edward, Raymond, Albert, Frank, Lloyd and Andrew. Surviving are five children, Thomas R. (Connie), Chester A. (Brenda), Kenneth J. (Sharon), and Gregory G. - all of Central Lake, and Christine M. (Steven) Draper of Bellaire; a brother, Clifford "Jack" (Rosalie) of Suttons Bay; a sister, Martha (Jack) Brown of Traverse City; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Stabnau, 59, of Central Lake, died Tuesday at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire. He was born July 7, 1941, in Detroit, the son of Raymond and Catherine (Tomalka) Stabnau. Dennis was a supervisor for the Ford Motor Company, Michigan Truck Plant in Wayne, Mich. for over 24 years, retiring in 1987. In 1991 he moved to Central Lake from Wayne to fulfill his dream of living on a lake up north. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and working on old classic cars. He also enjoyed relaxing in front of a campfire, caring for his roses and feeding the birds and other wildlife. On March 20, 1991, in Newland, NC, he married the former Elaine Croton-Cashion, who survives. He is also survived by his mother, Catherine J. Stabnau of Dearborn Heights; a daughter, Catherine D. Fischer of Garden City; a grandson, Jimmy Fisher; two stepdaughters, Jeanette (John) Jarosz of LaVerne, Calif. and Kelly (Mark) Hess of Waterford; a stepson, Craig Cashion of Central Lake; three stepgrandchildren, John Jarosz and Casey and Carter Hess; a brother, Paul W. Dennis R. Stabnau Died September 26, 2000 CENTRAL LAKE - Dennis R. Stabnau, 59, of Central Lake, died Tuesday at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire. He was born July 7, 1941, in Detroit, the son of Raymond and Catherine (Tomalka) Stabnau. Dennis was a supervisor for the Ford Motor Company, Michigan Truck Plant in Wayne, Mich., for over 24 years, retiring in 1987. In 1991 he moved to Central Lake from Wayne to fulfill his dream of living on a lake up north. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and working on old classic cars. He also enjoyed relaxing in front of a campfire, caring for his roses and feeding the birds and other wildlife. On March 20, 1991, in Newland, N.C., he married the former Elaine Croton-Cashion, who survives. He is also survived by his mother, Catherine J. Stabnau of Dearborn Heights; a daughter, Catherine D. Fischer of Garden City; a grandson, Jimmy Fisher; two stepdaughters, Jeanette (John) Jarosz of LaVerne, Calif., and Kelly (Mark) Hess of Waterford; a stepson, Craig Cashion of Central Lake; three stepgrandchildren, John Jarosz and Casey and Carter Hess; a brother, Paul W. (Paula) Stabnau of Lake Ann; and a sister, Marsha K. (Larry) Allsteadt of Dearborn. He was preceded in death by his father. He was born July 25, 1913, in Mancelona, the son of Allison and Rachel (Hood) Vanniman. On December 21, 1940, he married Lois Finch in Central Lake. They owned and operated a farm in Banks Township until 1976 when they moved to Central Lake Township. Mr. Vanniman was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in Okinawa. Surviving are his wife, Lois; children, Alan (Gladys) Vanniman, Laura (Larry) Essenberg, and Jack (Sonia) Vanniman - all of Ellsworth, and Cindy (Don) Samson of Williamsburg; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Chris had been a resident of Traverse City for 11 years. Born November 5, 1950, in Detroit, he was the son of William and Carol Watts. Chris was a Veteran and served in the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Chris enjoyed hunting, fishing and taxidermy along with many other outdoor hobbies and interests. Yeomans, 85, of Traverse City died Wednesday at her home. She was born Oct. 26, 1914, in Monroe Township, Newaygo County, the daughter of Edward M. and Rosalia (Olson) Thorsen. Sophia graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1932. She married Clarence R. Yeomans in Traverse City. Sophia worked for North Star Bus Lines for 13 years and for Grand Traverse Auto for 26 years before retiring in 1980. She enjoyed having garage sales, baking, reading and doing cut work. Survivors include two stepsons, Laurence Carroll of Grand Rapids and William Carroll of Greenville; a stepdaughter-in-law, Laurelie J. Yeomans of Cadillac; 17 stepgrandchildren; and many stepgreat-grandchildren. Sophia was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a stepdaughter, Margaret Gauthier, and a stepson, Gordon W. Yeomans. Born Oct. 8, 1922, in Traverse City, she was the daughter of Amil and Mildred (Newstead) Rumbach. Helen was a 1961 graduate of NMC School of Nursing. She was employed as a LPN at Medical Care Facility, retiring in 1980. Helen was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and also AML, Traverse City Elk's Lodge and Eagles Club No. 383, also in Traverse City. She enjoyed camping and dancing. Smith Died September 29, 2000 FIFE LAKE - Harry R. Smith, 75, of Fife Lake, died Friday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Born Aug. 29, 1925, in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., he was the son of William Houston and Myrtle Montana (Shaw) Smith. On Sept. 17, 1952, in Lewisburg, Tenn., he married the former Doris Hunter. Harry served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by the Detroit Police Department for 25 years as a detective lieutenant in the Robbery Division, retiring in 1976. Harry was a former member of the Masonic order and he enjoyed his grandchildren, building, construction, carpentry, hunting and fishing. Survivors include his wife, Doris; two daughters, Valli M. (Gordon) Ashbay of Wacousta and Nancy C. (Mark) Kujawski of Grosse Pointe Park; six grandchildren, Lisa, Michelle and Jonathan Ashbay and Christine, Mark Jr. and Steven Kujawski; and two brothers, Robert (Chris) Smith of Plymouth and Bernard (Tammy) Smith of Alaska. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, William Smith. Private family services will be held. Interment will be at Garfield Township Cemetery in Kalkaska County. Pamela Ann Snyder Died September 28, 2000 CADILLAC - Pamela Ann Snyder, 33, of Cadillac, died Thursday at her home. Born Feb. 16, 1967, in Detroit, she was the beloved daughter of James W. and Margaret (Reeves) Snyder, Sr. Pamela graduated from Kingsley High School in 1985 and then attended Sumie College in the Upper Peninsula. She had a warm and gentle nature and was loved by all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. Survivors include her father, James Snyder, Sr. of Kingsley; stepmother, Marie Harman of Traverse City; two sisters, Mary VanWagner of Traverse City and Deborah Haggerty of Bay City; one brother, James Snyder, Jr. of Harrietta; a grandmother, Mary Pearson; ten nieces and nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Snyder; one grandmother; two grandfathers; one uncle; and one niece.
